Custom Spend Segmentation

Purpose

Provide an ability to make comparisons across 4 metrics of; $, Units, Households, Discount $ Share by segmenting the shopping population into % bucket sizes of your choosing. CustomSpendSegmentation  CustomSpendSegmentationGraph

Instance

Location – This is the standard selector for groups of stores. You have access to

  • store hierarchies where you can select a node in a hierarchy, and
  • store attributes where you can select an attribute of store

The report will aggregate the results for all stores you define into a total for the report.

Product – This is the standard selector for groups of items.  You have access to

  • product hierarchies where you can select a node in a hierarchy, and
  • product attributes where you can select an attribute of items

The report will aggregate the results for all items you define into a total for the report.

Time – This is the standard selector for time

Runtime Choices

This report operates quite differently from most inasmuch as it operates on the “instance” data stored in the report’s data cube at runtime to create specified aggregates of the data which are the rows of the report.  Your type into the “Group Breakpoints” box a comma delimited string of numbers representing percentage breakpoints for data aggregation.

Example: the string “10,25,50,90,100” would result in rows in the report for

  • Group1(1-10%)
  • Group 2 (11-25%)
  • Group 3 (26-50%)
  • Group 4 (51-90%)
  • Group 5 (91-100%)

where the participants in those groups had been assigned by sorting the household’s shopping performance on $ spend in descending order and assigning the household to groups based on their centile ranking.

Rows

This report operates at runtime on the “instance” data stored in the report’s data cube to breakout the data into the rows of the report persuant to the information you enter in the “Group Breakpoints” box.

Columns/Metrics

  • $ – Total dollar spend for the households in the segment in the timeframe of the report.  Dollar spend is the taken from the transaction log as the List Amount + Tax Amount – Markdown Amount.
  • $ Share – the Total Dollar Spend expressed as a percentage of the total.
  • Discount $ – The sum of discount  (markdown) dollars used by the segment.
  • Discount $ Share – the Discount $ expressed as a percentage of the total.
  • Units – The sum of units purchased by the segment.
  • Unit Share – the Units expressed as a percentage of the total.
  • Households – Count of distinct households assigned to the segment.
  • % of Households – Count of distinct households assigned to the segment expressed as a percent of the total.
